Casino Ranks writes about online and land-based gambling for a Canadian audience. Below are the boundaries of what our pages can promise, and the part of every decision that remains yours.
General guidance only
Our articles are written for many readers at once. They cannot weigh your finances, your circumstances or the specific rules of your province, and none of them should be read as legal, financial or tax counsel. Where a definite answer matters, ask a qualified adviser or the relevant authority.
Casino games are games of chance. Casino Ranks will never claim that a site, a slot or a betting system can turn a profit, and a promise like that from anyone else is a red flag.
Offers move faster than reviews
Bonus amounts, wagering multiples, minimum deposits, payout times and banking options are copied from operators' own pages and re-checked whenever a review is written or refreshed. Casinos revise these details constantly and seldom announce it, so a number that held true a week ago may already be stale.
Whatever the casino displays at the moment you sign up therefore overrides our summary. Go through the full bonus rules — maximum bet while wagering, games that do not count, expiry, cash-out caps — before opting in. Found a mismatch? Email [email protected] and we will fix the page.
A ranking is an opinion
Each list compares casinos on a fixed set of criteria: Canadian banking such as Interac, play in CAD, bonus fairness, how fast money comes out, support quality and licensing. A different reviewer with different priorities might order them differently, and a top spot does not promise good service, fair payouts or a casino that stays in business.
We do have commercial agreements with some operators; the affiliate disclosure describes them. Those agreements fund the work. They do not purchase a conclusion.
Ten provinces, different rules
No nationwide online casino licence exists in Canada. Every province sets its own approach for residents:
- Ontario runs an open market: private operators need registration with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. Promoting bonuses to Ontarians is not permitted, and a good number of the casinos on our pages hold no Ontario registration.
- Alberta regulates its own market through the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission.
- Elsewhere, the provincial lottery or gaming corporation provides the sanctioned online casino.
Plenty of international sites welcome Canadians while holding a licence from somewhere else. That licence does not come from a Canadian regulator, and any complaint against such a casino is decided outside the country. Establish which rules cover your address before depositing; we are unable to make that determination on your behalf.
Minimum age
Gambling in Canada starts at 19, except in Alberta, Manitoba and Québec, where the threshold is 18. These pages are not for anyone under that age, and an operator that discovers an under-age account will void its winnings.
What a bonus really is
Bonus money is a credit that comes with strings. Until the playthrough is complete, the credit and what it wins are normally locked, and a single slip — a spin above the stake cap, say — can forfeit the lot. An eye-catching headline number may be worth less than a modest bonus with clean conditions. Our reviews place the rules beside the amount where we can, yet the operator's wording is final.
Sites we link to
Casinos, game studios, payment firms and regulators all run their own websites, and we run none of them. Their pages, their uptime, their use of your data and the result of any quarrel with them sit outside our responsibility. Verification, deposits, withdrawals and account closures are settled between you and the operator alone.
Money at risk
The house keeps a mathematical edge in every casino game, so players as a whole come out behind over time. Put down only money you could lose without it hurting, never chase a losing run and never count on gambling to pay bills. Most casinos offer limits on deposits, losses and session length in the account menu — switch them on before the first spin.
Our liability
We take care over every page, but errors, stale details and outages can still happen. As far as the applicable law allows, Windwardly Media Group B.V. will not be liable for any loss, direct or indirect, that follows from relying on Casino Ranks, from acting on a review or ranking, or from transactions with an outside website. Consumer rights that the law makes mandatory are not touched by this clause.
When play stops being play
Signs worth taking seriously: spending beyond your plan, borrowing to keep going, keeping your gambling secret, or feeling on edge whenever you stop. ConnexOntario's free, confidential line, 1-866-531-2600, is staffed 24/7. Self-exclusion tools and more services are gathered on the responsible gambling page.
The French section
Part of Casino Ranks is published in French for readers in Québec and beyond. Those guides are written on their own rather than translated sentence by sentence, so examples, wording and the casinos discussed can differ from the English pages. If the two versions appear to contradict each other on a fact, rely on the operator's terms and tell us, so we can bring them into line.
Taxes
Whether gambling winnings have to be reported depends on personal circumstances, for example on whether play is a pastime or a business activity. We give no tax guidance; the Canada Revenue Agency or a tax professional can.
